Reach the City 2007 was held in Bristol again as in 2006. Delegates came from as far afield as the USA (with a team of 12), Spain, Slovakia, Austria, New Zealand and Uganda. Altogether we had a team of over 60 which included the bulk of the GB staff team. Trinity Theological College was the base of operations and accommodation for all but the OAC Staff who had B&B in local Christians homes. Each day began with a time of worship and ministry led by Jon Bonner and various speakers. The mornings were then filled with lectures and workshops ably led by Geoff Beckingham and Roger Gray. Subject matter ranged from the general principles of Open Air Evangelism, to sketchboard, Gospel magic, mime and children's ministry. After lunch it was into the city centre for open air meetings. After the rains of the preceding weeks it was touch and go as to whether we would be rained off but the skies cleared and the sun shone in answer to many prayers. Late afternoons it was back for more learning together before dinner and then back onto the streets for the evening meetings at the Waterfront.
Over the course of the week hundreds stopped to listen to the Gospel message resulting in hundreds of conversations. Many were prayed with and some trusted the Lord. For some of the delegates this was their first experience of street ministry and the first time that many had preached. It was a thrill for me to listen to one sixteen year old girl from the States preach with the sketchboard for the first time. She was fantastic! At the other end of the scale Church ministers were rediscovering the thrill of getting back out amongst people. Pete Hodge and Steve Gurnett drew the largest crowds of the week with an amazing escape routine that had people on tip toe as they strained to get a better view!
