A small house stood in the middle of a wheat field. The tall stalks of wheat waved in the wind around the house like a mighty rolling sea. A curious little two-year-old child wandered into the waves of grain and soon was lost from sight. The cold night approached, which would surely freeze the child to death, if he were not found quickly.
Many searchers began going out individually into the wheat field, looking for the lost child. But as night fell, not one of them could find the boy. As the long night passes, the tempreature dropped towards freezing.
When morning broke, many gathered to resume the search. This time, however, they decided to work together. Joining hands all across the wheat field, they walked out in a single line. In a short time they found the little boy.
The father, with a breaking heart, quickly embraced his dead child in his arms and said, 'If only was had all joined hands together sooner!'
The Lord of the harvest asks us to pray for workers, whom He can send out into His harvest field. In the early church, He thrust out His witnesses to proclaim the gospel to the known world. Now he calls us to reap what may be the final harvest before He returns. None of us will ever reach the lost multitudes alone, but together we can. If we all do our part, the world will be evangelised.
Let us join hands in the harvest and work together, before the night comes when no one can work.
