Romania

Before the revolution, in 1989-90, churches were oppressed and sometimes severely persecuted. Since 1989, the evangelical church has grown slowly, but there is a great need for evangelism. Paul and Julie Wakefield from Great Britain are establishing the work of OAC in Romania with national evangelists. Up to 200 will often gather in the open air meetings, usually half of them adults and half children. The programme lasts for an hour as the crowd listens to the gospel through puppets and illustrated messages. People are coming to Christ. 'This open air ministry could be duplicated all over Romania,' reports Rob George, our OACi vice-President. 'There are many parks in every city, every village has a central meeting point and there are 100,000 orphans.'
