Ecuador has a population of over 12 million people. The major religion is Catholic, nevertheless many of them don't trust in Jesus as their Savior, but in their good deeds and rituals. Most of them have never had the opportunity to read and understand the Bible. Only 3% of the population is evangelical.
In the mid 80's, David Wilson, President of Open Air Campaigners International, arrived in Ecuador for the purpose of training churches for the ministry of open air evangelism. In spite of giving various seminars, and seeing many people respond to Christ in the open air, as far as he knew, none of those whom he had trained continued to go out. But his work in the Lord was not in vain. The years later, David Proaño, who was a youth leader that attended one of those seminars, continued to use his training with his church, and even trained another people to publicly proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Lord showed His hand upon CALE (Open Air Campaigners Ecuador) from the beginning. God miraculously provided a truck, a video projector and all the equipment necessary to show evangelistic videos in the open air, parks, schools, plazas, etc. In November 2000, Open Air Campaigners Ecuador was officially signed into existence under Ecuadorian law as an Evangelical Mission associated with OAC International.
By the grace of God, we (David and Monica Proaño) are the first full time staff in Open Air Campaigners Ecuador. The Lord has called both of us to be evangelist even before we married, we know the Lord has brought us together for His Glory. When we look upon the fields we realize that the harvest is great and the workers are few, and that we don't have the power to reach to so much people. Only the God of all power and mercy could make such a complex work using weak workers like us. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things and the things that are not to nullify the things that are. So that no one boast before him. I Corinthians 1: 27-29: May all the glory be to Him!
We encourage you to pray for us, that God may continue to open doors for our message, so that we may proclaim the gospel of Christ in Ecuador. We, just as Joshua in the field of battle, we advance in the work of proclaiming the Gospel, in the measure in which your hands, like those of Moses, get up in intercession before the Almighty, and so, together you and us, are carrying out the work that He has commended us.
