The great nation south of the Rio Bravo may seem very different to North americans, but it is also part of that continent! Over 80 million people make up the country and most are without hope for the future. Humanly speaking, this means they will do anything to make it to the north. Spiritually, it means we have a clear commission to reach them with the Gospel.
OAC in Mexico
Hernandez Family 2006
Mexico is one of our most recently established branches, although we have been working to find the right man to start it for many years. Campaigns, many involving US teams, cooperation with established missions and churches and so on have been undertaken since early days of the US ministry. Finally we have the man!
Misael and Taira Hernandez are Mexican nationals, and live in Mexico's second city, Guadalajara. It is a busy city with many good open air sites and is also very close to the least reached region of the country, Los Altos de Jalisco, where evangelicals comprise only 0.12% of the population.
Misael was the pioneer pastor of one of the two churches in the Los Altos town of Aarandas, but joined OAC to pioneer this ministry of evangelism in Mexico. His ministry includes leading churches out in open air evangelism, either to build up their congregations, or to plant new churches. In this whole area of Mexico, known as the Circle of Silence, there are less than 2% evangelical believers. The spiritual need is great, but the people are very responsive to the gospel.
Misael and his wife, Taira, have two children.
